Implants in the Anterior Area Description The replacement of a maxillary anterior tooth is the most challenging case from all aspects of dentistry. Today, our office recognizes that the challenge of the maxillary anterior tooth replacement is not reconstructing lost tissues but rather preserving the existing hard and soft tissue components present around the natural tooth. Immediate single tooth replacement allows for faster healing by promoting bone healing in one phase. Previous techniques needed healing after tooth extraction, during implant osseointegration and after the second stage surgery. The immediate implant protocol combines all into one stage. Furthermore, the management of the soft tissue is minimal since it does not change during healing.
________________________________________________________________________ Length Average 2 hours or more Cases are followed closely for 6 months prior to final crown placement ________________________________________________________________________________ After surgery Temporary soreness, minimal gum tissue brushing, no face swelling. ________________________________________________________________________________
Recovery Back to work: next day ________________________________________________________________________________ Risk Implant loss due to early loading ( biting on the implant too soon). Infection could appear if the extracted tooth is severely infected or antibiotics are not taken as recommended. Slight gum recession is commonly (0.5-1 mm) depending on local trauma. ________________________________________________________________________________ Results Very predictable. Dental implants are a permanent solution. They do not need to be removed at a later time unless problems appear. ________________________________________________________________________________ Patient Status Outpatient. Does not need to go to a hospital. ________________________________________________________________________________ Anesthesia Local without any need for IV sedation. Oral sedation can be used ocaccionally.
