Placement of Posterior Implants without Sinus Augmentation After extraction of the upper posterior teeth, the alveolar bone is lost due alveolar bone healing and expansion of the sinus cavity. Sinus augmenation procedure consists of the placement of bone graft material inside the sinus cavity in order to regain the lost bone. Sinus lift procedures are not only complex, but they take extended healing time and additional expenses. For these reasons, most of the time, patients do not have the procedure. A new technique developed in our office permits the placement of implants in the presence of limited residual bone (2-3 mm of bone) without having to do a sinus augmentation procedure. The advantage of the technique includes rapid implant integration, formation of a new bone and low cost. Because there is no need for bone graft material, the formation of the new bone is very rapid. Ultimately, the crown over the implant can be made sooner without the risk of implant failure.
